We went to the 2014 Byron Bay Surf Festival, focuses on the creative culture within surfing. We enjoyed a 3-day fusion of "Surf Culture", featuring surf art, photography, live music, films, history, workshops, literature, markets, design, craft, innovation, presentations, sustainability, youth art, swap-meet, surfing and lifestyle.
We believe Byron Bay is the perfect venue to showcase all that is unique and attractive about surfing, drawing from the rich local and national surfing heritage. When you spend time over there, you can feel something special and unique in the atmosphere thanks to a creative energy with a global surfing community and a non-competitive context. Simplicity, naturalness,joy, sharing are the key words of this hippie community.
We discovered new and original products in the surfing industry, with surprising shapes of surfboards. All the good vibes are going from one to another tipi. A market who feed an open-mind and an endless curiosity.
The last day, people go into the water just to have fun and sharing waves all together. Whatever your level, your age, your sexe, your board (longboard, shortboard, finless...) only one thing matters here, the passion of surfing.
But unfortunately, BBSF won't be going ahead this year. After four successful event years and the recent Surf Culture Award recognition by Surfing Australia, the decision was not easy but obvious because of a lack of major sponsor.
