NOMAD OF THE WEEK // FOSTER HUNTINGTON

Foster made a decision in the summer of 2011, quite unusual, something that only few people make in their life. He left his « normal life », went away from his daily grind, quit his job in New York and moved into a camper.

Since then, he has driven 100,000 miles around the West, surfing and camping. This way of living helped him to think differently and being creative with new projects coming up.

He started with a project called « The Burning House », asking people « If their house was burning, what would they take with them? ». The goal was to make them realize the difference between what is practical, valuable or sentimental. Then, « Van life » was a project about sharing photos of van life’s people, what built a sort of community of nomads.

Finally in 2014, he wanted to set up a home base in a Valley near the Columbia River Gorge in Skamania (State of Oregon, USA) and build a space to work on projects. He started day dreaming about building a tree house with his good friend Tucker Gorman. The idea grown up to the point of building a two tree houses and a skate bowl. After months of preparation and planning, they started serious things in summer and loads of friends passed by there to work and enjoy a wild life.

This project called « The Cinder Cone » gather around people coming from everywhere with complementary skills and one common will: building these amazing huts in the trees with a skateboarding bowl and a jacuzzi to go along with this place in middle of nowhere.

Since finishing the tree houses, he has been organizing some images, drawings and notes into a book. His goal is to make something that shows the process from dreaming up a seemingly outlandish idea to the final result after thousands of hours of hard work and the moments that happened in between. By the way, he’s funding it through Kickstarter.
